Do Conspiracy Theories Help Save Us From Government Manipulation?

The definition of manipulation is to handle or to control, and that is what our government tries to do to us. Our leaders say we are all about democracy and what the people say matters. But is that really true? Is what “we say” actually our words? Or is it what the government wants us to say and believe and that is we have been taught to follow all of this for as long as we can remember. We should believe in what we want and support what we want. Not just what we see and hear about. If we find out the real truth and maybe we, as citizens, won’t be lied too as much by our political leaders.

Our government wants us to be closed minded people. When you are closed minded you usually believe one thing, or at least one or the other. You don't see other perspectives out there. We are always told to be open to other ideas and learn about other perspectives. But why when it comes to politics is it just one perspective? We need to be more open minded people. When we are open minded we can look at many different perspectives on life. Without different perspectives, we can be easily manipulated. It has been proven that open minded people are less swayed by a single event. Also, open minded people are more resistant to manipulation. Open minded people are better able to predict behavior. Just because you are open minded doesn't mean you have to believe in conspiracy theories or you are a conspiracy theorist. Conspiracy theories just help create other perspectives."Conspiracy theories create opportunities for rich discussion about how and why we decide what to believe” (Hobbs 20). Not every conspiracy theory is true. Probably very few of them are actually true. Will we ever know? Who knows. But the beneficial side of conspiracy theories are big. It hinders a direct flow from the government --> the media --> citizens. They help us stop and think about different possibilities on what could be true or not. At least we all should know that everything we see or hear is not all true. If we say that and tell people that, they why do we have a lot of people believe everything the media puts out is true?
